Like the family of Czar Nicholas II, the Gosselin clan of TLC’s Jon and Kate Plus 8 are going down. Quickly. And it’s gonna get uglier. (Gawker)
Though I will say: I didn’t see it happening this quickly. GoldenFiddle Spencer takes the prime quote from the piece, which should spin every philosophy grad student into high-test: (A) Is she right, at all, in any regard? (B) If, in fact, the number of births is uncontrolled, unexpected, and unprovoked (which in Kate’s case, it wasn’t, but still..), what’s the ideal amount of care/type of care society should give to someone with an abundance of kids? (C) If it is provoked, what then? Do we punish the parents? Neglect them? Remand the kids into the custody of the state?
The questions go on and on.
That being said: Consider Kate’s sense of entitlement. It’s the byproduct of our bureaucracy-plagued, dysfunctional welfare state that manages to fail to serve and fucks over its constituency while also encouraging and perpetuating their participation in it.
